Friday, June 23rd - 2023, Tartan Turban Secret Reading Room Series
The Tartan Turban Secret Readings were launched to mark Canada’s 150th anniversary by the series curators, poet Gavin Barrett and late author, Mayank Bhatt. The Readings celebrate and support Canadian writers with a special focus on those who self-identify as black, indigenous or people of colour. Big thank you to Lisa de Nikolets for the invitation to read. I am grateful for the opportunity and it promises to be a wonderful evening! Barrett and Welsh, 577 Kingston Road. Readings begin at 7 pm and run till 10 pm.

Writing our Stories, hosted by Lanark County Interval House, and Carleton Place Public Library. An opportunity to gather in a safe place, listen to readings by Lorrie Potvin, author of First Gear – A Motorcycle Memoir and Horses in the Sand, and Brenda Missen, author of Tell Anna She’s Safe, and her most recent memoir Tumblehome – One Woman’s Canoeing Adventures in the Divine Near Wilderness. Discussion, writing and a sharing circle will complete the afternoon. Details forthcoming for times and registration. Very grateful for this opportunity.

The Awards recognize graduates in seven categories – Apprenticeship, Business, Community Services, Creative Arts and Design, Health Sciences, Recent Graduate and Technology. I’ve been nominated for Apprenticeship. Truly blessed and what an honour!

15th Annual Write by the Lake. Hosted by Richard Taylor at his home nestled in the beautiful hills of western Quebec north of Ottawa. Rick is an author, writing teacher, sculptor, surfer, and open-water swimmer who has published a collection of short stories, and an Australian travel memoir, House Inside the Waves: Domesticity, Art and the Surfing Life. The midday session will include a reading with a question and answer session, followed by an informal chat over lunch. Possibly a swim . . . ; )

Join us for the launch of Horses in the Sand, a memoir written by Lorrie Potvin that documents her journey to becoming a tradeswoman, teacher, and artist. Lorrie will be joined by Cheryl Sutherland, author of Alchemy: A Geography of Love and Brenda Missen, who will read from Tumblehome. It’s sure to be a memoirable event!
