Meet MIGGY! Made from an ESAB MIGGY 125 MIG welder that finally gave way to age and lack of parts, she stands on a cutting reel from a push mower my neighbour gifted me. Supported by the cast base of a vintage lamp I scrounged from a flea market, the license plates used to embellish her wings are Ontario plates from 1934 and 1935, making her a truly one of a kind piece.
Maple was inspired by pondering the modest harrow disc. One morning it ‘popped’ into my head and her shape was formed by cutting out her wings and using oxy-acetylene torches to heat and lift her from the disc. All the pieces used are scraps scrounged from local bike shops, flea markets and antique stores. The harrow itself came from Howe Island. The leaf embellishment is a cast iron finial that was used on wire fencing in the 1800s. It is truly a one-of-a-kind piece that can either lay flat as a centrepiece or be hung from a wall or fence.
